This policy covers homeservercalc.com and explains how information is handled when you use it. By using the site you agree to what is described here.

What the calculators do with your inputs

Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser. Drive sizes, layouts, watt figures, UPS ratings and backup capacities are computed locally in JavaScript and are never transmitted to us or to anyone else. There is no server-side calculation endpoint, because the site is a set of static files. Nothing you type into a tool is stored, logged or associated with you.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and which are not. It sets cookies or similar identifiers in your browser and records the pages you view, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, and how you arrived. We use it in aggregate. We do not attempt to identify individual visitors, and we do not sell or share analytics data.

We also record when an outbound affiliate link is clicked, including the product identifier and the page it was clicked from, so we can tell which recommendations are useful. That event carries no personal information.

You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, by blocking analytics in your browser settings or with an extension, or by using a browser that blocks it by default. The site works normally either way.

Affiliate links

Links to Amazon are affiliate links, described in full on the affiliate disclosure page. When you follow one, Amazon receives our associate tag so a resulting purchase can be attributed, and Amazon sets its own cookies under its own privacy policy. We never see your name, your address, your payment details or the contents of your order. What we see is aggregate commission reporting.

Email capture and the contact form

Two forms on this site collect an address, and they are handled differently on purpose.

• The build-list forms on the complete builds post to Google Forms, which records the address and which page it came from into a spreadsheet. The address is used to send you the parts list you asked for and occasional related updates. Every message carries an unsubscribe link, and you can ask for removal through the contact page at any time.
• The contact form posts through FormSubmit, which forwards the message to us by email. That address is used to reply to you and is not added to any mailing list.

Both providers process the submission on our behalf under their own privacy terms. We do not sell, rent or trade addresses to anyone.

Hosting and server logs

The site is served as static files from a content delivery network. Like every web host, the provider records standard request logs including IP addresses, requested paths, user agent and timestamps, for security, abuse prevention and delivery. Those logs are held by the provider under its own retention policy.

Cookies and local storage

The site itself sets no advertising cookies and no tracking cookies of its own. The identifiers present come from Google Analytics, as described above, and from Amazon once you follow an affiliate link. Blocking cookies does not break the calculators, since they do not depend on stored state.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to request access to personal information held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to processing. In practice we hold almost nothing: an email address if you submitted a form, and aggregate analytics that is not tied to you by name. Requests can be sent through the contact page and are actioned within a reasonable period.

Where the law requires a legal basis for processing, ours is legitimate interest in understanding and improving the site, and consent for anything you actively submit.

Children

This site is aimed at adults buying storage hardware. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has submitted information through a form here, contact us and it will be deleted.

Third-party links

Pages here link to manufacturer documentation, retailers and reference material. Those sites have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for their practices. This policy applies only to homeservercalc.com.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as the site changes. Material changes will be reflected on this page, and continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
